Rob Simmelkjaer has served as Chief Executive Officer of NYRR since December 2022.
Rob is a runner and five-time finisher including two New York City Marathons. He a native New Yorker, an experienced sports business executive, and a government official, with a record of leadership and performance across a range of sports and media organizations.
During his tenure as CEO, NYRR has reached all-time highs in revenues and membership. In 2023 the organization completed a five year strategic plan to help focus the organization’s efforts on five strategic pillars.
Under Rob’s leadership NYRR has reached milestones like holding the largest NYC Marathon in history in 2024 with 55,646 finishers, launching a new middle school running program in NYC public schools, launching it’s first-ever year-round mobile app, adding new sponsors like Peloton and Citizens Bank, and launching a new content studio which premiered it’s first film “Final Finishers” at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Rob lives in Connecticut with his two daughters and two dogs, all of whom keep him very busy.
