Since 2024, John Fitzgibbon has held the post of Managing Director of NECSTouR, the Network of European Regions for Competitive and Sustainable Tourism, based in Brussels representing 48 European regions and a further 27 associated members.
His ambition is to increase the reach of the network and to make sustainable tourism better networked across Europe’s regions through NECSTouR.
John has worked in Brussels for over 20 years including representing regional administrations from the UK.
He has also worked in the private sector on EU funded projects.
From 2017-22 John was the project coordinator for an Interreg Europe project on internationalisation of SMEs with 7 EU regions.
His conviction is that tourism is a force for good and Europe needs to safeguard its place as global leader in sustainable tourism.
