There’s more to the word “solo” than meets the eye. According to an ancient interpretation, the Latin word *solus* is linked to *sollus*, meaning “whole.” Traveling alone, then, doesn’t mean being isolated, but setting out as a whole person—in control of one’s own choices and often more open to others. *Solo, Not Alone* begins with a simple gesture—sitting alone at a table—to explore how a destination shifts from being a place of safety to one of empathy.
Mariapia Favaretto, who studies empathetic destinations through gastronomy, offers a female perspective on this topic.
Amalia Saporetti presents her master’s thesis, which she recently defended at the Sorbonne, in which BTO Women is one of the case studies on solo travel.
Maria Gasparella, Group Director of Sales and Marketing for the Villa d’Este Group, explains how high-end hospitality welcomes solo female travelers.
Finally, Lara Leovino, a journalist at Cairo Editore and an expert on hotel reviews, takes stock of hospitality from a woman’s perspective, exploring expectations and perceptions.
The thread that binds them: solo travel isn’t a solitary journey, but it can become a communal one.
