OFFBEAT WALLS. Street Art, Urban Regeneration, and New Cultural Geographies

Street art is reshaping the cultural landscapes of cities and small towns, transforming urban spaces, outlying neighborhoods, and forgotten places into new destinations for travelers, artists, and creative communities. Festivals, murals, and public art projects help build new local identities, creating opportunities for participation, cultural appeal, and local development.

From the experience of Aielli—the Abruzzo village that, through Borgo Universo, has made urban art a defining feature of its identity—to the vision of Tuscany and the policies promoted by the Ministry of Culture, the panel explores the role of creativity in the processes of urban regeneration and territorial development.

The discussion focused on the conditions that make these initiatives sustainable over time: community involvement, the quality of cultural programming, the management of spaces, and the social, economic, and tourism-related impacts. A reflection on the new geographies of culture and the opportunities that public art opens up for emerging destinations.
