Accessibility is no longer just an added feature of a destination’s offerings, but a criterion for rethinking the entire destination experience: spaces, mobility, services, marketing, hospitality, and technology. When incorporated into the design process from the very beginning, universal design broadens the audience, improves hospitality, and makes it easier for residents and visitors with diverse needs to enjoy the destination.
The challenge, however, is not merely technical. It requires governance, active listening, and collaborative planning among institutions, service providers, associations, and communities. This dialogue brings together complementary approaches: participatory public policies, standards and tools to improve service quality, urban innovation, and digital services.
From Sardinia to Zaragoza, drawing on the experience of Village for All, the panel explores how to transform accessibility from a requirement into a guiding principle of destination design: not specialized tourism for a select few, but better-designed places for everyone.
